Free study to evaluate balance benefits of technology designed for space

The Second Wind Foundation is sponsoring a free study to evaluate balance benefits using a vibration platform. The program includes brief 10 minute sessions on the vibration plate, 3 times/week for 12 weeks. At the end of the period, it is expected that participants will see and feel that their balance has improved.  Progress will be measured scientifically with a standardized protocol.

Vibration platform technology was initially designed to combat muscle strength and bone density losses in astronauts caused by being in space for long periods of time.

Experts say that the muscles involuntarily respond to the vigorous vibration by rapidly contracting many more muscle fibers at the same time than in usual exercises.

Dr. Rooda, the founder of Second Wind Foundation, says initial reactions have been enthusiastic. “The workout is amazing! An intense, but short routine that gives better than expected results. It’s a workout that is not a workout, and provides benefits that can’t be achieved with typical exercise routines.”

Interested participants should contact Dr. Rooda for an appointment at 609-921-3004.

Second Wind Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and provide services to members of the public who want to age optimally, by design and not by accident. Its focus is educating and training people to improve balance and reduce falling. The foundation has been in existence for about 7 years funded almost exclusively by private donors.
